English in Vietnam is a great option but not all Vietnamese can afford to send their children to English schools due to expensive education establishments. For them, they can still learn the language in other ways without paying any expensive tuition fees, by talking to foreign visitors in the public park during their free time or joining and English group activities.
Learning English in Vietnam is Expensive
Education establishments in Vietnam like Wall Street English, IDP, British Council, RMIT University, IIBT Vietnam are likely to have more expensive tuition fees in English courses. Probably the reason behind is the quality of education they can give to Vietnamese students. IIBT Vietnam for example have native teachers from Brisbane. Auckland, Melbourne and Sydney. These teachers can provide far better English teachings than locals, according to students who studied with Vietnamese teachers. For that reason, these schools pay these teachers maybe 8 to 10 times higher than a Vietnamese teachers plus the state of the art facilities that these schools have.
There are local schools and centers offering cheaper English courses. The net result is very poor English skills in general but the middle classes will have some English language skills. The problem is exacerbated by teachers giving their students pass grades, no matter what their score.
